Here’s a roadmap to guide you toward landing your next internship in the sports industry:

Research Companies and Roles (Weeks 1-2)

  • Identify potential companies and organizations in the sports industry that align with your interests and career goals.
  • Research the types of internships offered, application deadlines, and qualifications.

Update Your Resume and Cover Letter (Weeks 2-3)

  • Tailor your resume to highlight relevant experience, skills, and achievements.
  • Write a compelling cover letter that demonstrates your passion for sports and how your background aligns with the company’s values and goals.

Network and Reach Out (Weeks 3-5)

  • Connect with professionals in the sports industry on LinkedIn or through networking events.
  • Reach out to alumni, mentors, or friends who work in the field for informational interviews or advice.
  • Attend industry conferences, webinars, or career fairs to make new connections.

Apply to Internships (Weeks 5-7)

Sample Elevator Pitch and Supervisor Questions to Ask

Elevator Pitch

Ways to Ask Your Supervisor for Assistance

  2. Seek Feedback: “Can you provide feedback on my recent project/assignment? I’m eager to improve and would appreciate your insights on what I did well and what I can work on.”

The Bearcats Ambassadors


The Role

The role of the Bearcats Ambassadors is to serve and represent the University of Cincinnati Athletics (UCATS) office and department in an engaging, fun, dedicated manner while providing unsurpassed customer service to all visitors to UC. Ambassadors will be strategically positioned in the premium seating areas of the Nippert Stadium West Pavilion on football game day. Ambassador duties include:

  • Game day customer service representative–must be available to work all six home football games
  • Greeting guests as they enter the premium areas
  • Assisting guests with directions or other venue information and helping them locate their assigned seats
  • Work with ushers, security, and facilities staffs to resolve any issues or questions that come up during the game
  • Check-in on high-level donors to be sure that their needs are met throughout the game

Who

We’re looking for active people who enjoy sports and support UC Athletics. Ambassadors should be undergraduate or graduate students at UC available to work all six home football games. Ambassadors should have strong communication and customer service skills.

Why Join

This program gives students the opportunity to be a part of UC Athletics events while serving the guests, fans, student-athletes, and coaches. The Bearcats Ambassadors will play an integral role in enhancing the game-day experience. These individuals will also gain professional experience that can be taken to future careers in sports, business, and much more.

All Ambassadors will receive free UC Athletics gear as a uniform and also will be paid at the end of the season for the hours worked. If applicable, students may apply the hours to any practicum requirements they may have.

Indian Hill High School Athletic Department Internship


Indian Hill Braves Athletics is looking for an intern for the [XXXX-XXXX] school year. The ideal candidate will gain experience in all areas of sports management/administration. Ranked nationally as one of the top-performing schools, there are approximately 675 high school students and 450 middle school students.

The athletic intern will be working with all members of the athletic department, and report directly to the athletic coordinator/assistant athletic director. They will have a passion for sports and want to learn about all aspects of a high school and middle school athletic department. The athletic intern will assist the athletic department in the office and on game days and other events.

In Office Duties

  • Assist the athletic administrative assistant in daily tasks
  • Assist with/develop the creation of graphics/videos for social media
  • Organize and coordinate athletic inventory
  • Organize and coordinate concession inventory for all sports
  • Assist with other administrative duties as assigned daily

Game-Day Duties

  • Organize and direct game-day volunteers/workers
  • Organize set-up and take down of event materials
  • Assist in facility and event management
  • Assist with other game day duties as assigned via athletic department

Abilities and Skills

  • Ability to work weekdays, weekends, and evenings
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google
  • Familiar with Facebook, X, and Instagram
  • Experience with iMovie
  • Strong work ethic and social skills

FC Cincinnati


Job Title: Academy Equipment Intern

Department: Soccer Operations

Reports to: Academy Equipment Manager

Position Summary:

The academy equipment intern will work alongside our academy equipment coordinator to assist with the equipment needs of our FC Cincinnati Academy teams. This position is based out of the Mercy Health Training Center in Milford, Ohio. The duration of the internship is January through August, and the academy equipment intern will work an average of thirty hours per week.

  • Assist the academy equipment coordinator in day-to-day responsibilities
  • Assist academy coaches with set up and preparation of daily training sessions
  • Manage the daily academy team’s laundry operation
  • Assist in set up for home matches
  • Support in the logistics of game-day preparation and execution
