Chapter 7 Describing

Description creates vidid images in the reader’s mind by portraying people, places, or moments in detail. People use description every day. At home, family members might describe the style of their new apartment to a friend. At college, students could describe the results of a chemistry experiment to their classmates. At work, employees may describe a retirement party to an absent colleague.

This chapter provides exercises for students to create a descriptive essay including exploring topics, developing an essay outline, writing the thesis statement, generating supporting ideas, and writing up the draft and revising and editing the essay.
