Introduction

This book is designed to support the curriculum of ESL1080 English Composition for International Students at the University of Cincinnati. The fourth in the sequence of five English writing and composition courses, ESL1080 emphasizes critical reading, analytical thinking, and textual analysis with particular focus on argument and research-based writing. Students learn to write with purpose, audience, context, and conventions in mind and develop rigorous academic research practices.

These multimedia materials consist original work as well as materials from open educational resources, and are tailored to the specific objectives, components, and assignments of ESL1080. The goal of developing these materials is to enhance the usability of the textbook and reduce textbook costs for international students.

This book is a work in progress. Continuous improvement will be made based on instructor and student feedback.
